People visiting Dubrovnik like to visit neighbouring countries, that’s a fact! We have been taking them on wonderful trips in Dubrovnik region since 2007. So when we say people’s favorite tours from Dubrovnik areMostar tour and Montenegro tour we know what we’re talking about :)

Mostar tour from Dubrovnik

Mostar

Mostar is a city of contrasts, culture, color and cuisine. The city is divided by not only the Neretva River that flows through it but also by religion and culture from one bank to the other. Mostar, in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a memorable place to visit is where “east meets west” and where the journey to it is invigoratingly full of contrasts. Just a short drive up the Adriatic coast and then inwards following the breathtaking Neretva Valley will offer stunning views of the local countryside. Here the Neretva River enriches the land bringing to your senses the colors and scents from mandarin and kiwi plantations.

Montenegro tour from Dubrovnik

Montenegro

Montenegro is a small, picturesque country filled with natural beauties. A country in which you can spend the morning hiking in the mountain air and then the afternoon swimming in the clear blue Adriatic Sea, for although Montenegro is a small country it has it all. And it’s not just the natural beauty that will leave you speechless, the history, the culture, the cuisine and the people will all fascinate you, and all this within an hours drive of Dubrovnik.

We would also like to mention a few other destinations which are not as popular as these two but definitely worth visiting. Let’s start with beautiful Island of Kor?ula and Pelješac peninsula.

Two destinations in the Dubrovnik County that spring to mind when one thinks of wine are the Pelješac peninsula and the island of Kor?ula. Picturesque vineyards cling to rocky slopes dotted between the thick Mediterranean vegetation. A short ferry trip brings you to the magical island of Kor?ula and its forbidding walled town. The walled city, birthplace of Marko Polo, was mentioned in the 10th history. Two spectacular destinations that you could visit in one day all combined with exceptional cuisines and fine wines.

Elaphite Islands

The city of Split is the centre and a true heart of Dalmatia, where the main Dalmatian islands are located and where the beaches are the most beautiful. Both culture and history were generous to these parts in providing inspiration to artists who created their art in the stone walls and palaces. This forever young city is a home to the Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city today lives by the silent beats of history, the lively spirit of the young and its particular Mediterranean charm.

These are just a few places worth visiting while in Dubrovnik. There are many more but we just wanted to give you a few ideas! We hope we’ll see you on one of our tours in future or take you on a boat ride to one of many beautiful islands of The Adriatic Sea!

Dubrovnik is well and truly on the map for the world’s celebrities. Every year more and more A list stars decide to spend their summer holidays in the city and this is no different. Stephanie Seymour opened the celebrity season in Dubrovnik this year with her family. The supermodel and one time girlfriend of the lead singer of Guns N Roses, Axel Rose, came for a flying visit with her family and enjoyed a tour of the historic Old City.  The next in line was Nathaniel Buzolic star of the popular TV series Vampire Dairies. His visit proved particularly popular with the female population but he was more than pleased to hang out with them and sign a few…well more than a few….autographs. But this is just the beginning the height of the summer season isn’t really upon us yet, so you never know who you’ll bump in to in Dubrovnik.

Over the past few years Beyonce, Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Francis Ford Coppola, Sir Roger Moore, Mickey Rourke, Michael Palin, George Lucas, Bernie Ecclestone, Giorgio Armani…the list goes on and on…have all visited Dubrovnik. We ever had John McEnroe playing Goran Ivanisevic playing tennis on the Stradun. So have your cameras ready for another celebrity season in Dubrovnik.

Jamie Oliver’s magazine and website has featured the wonders of Dubrovnik in its latest issue. The full page article discusses the beauty of Dubrovnik and of course includes a piece about Dubrovnik’s cuisine.

Amongst the highlights described in the lengthy article is the Konoba Dubrava. “Konoba Dubrava, in nearby Bosanska, is another place worth the taxi ride. Here it’s all about traditional Dalmatian food, such as spit-roasted lamb and flat bread cooked over hot stones,” writes Kate Guest for the travel section of the Jamie magazine.

A great article and fantastic publicity for the eateries of Dubrovnik the article continues “Writer George Bernard Shaw said those who want to see paradise should come to Dubrovnik, and last year more than 600,000 people took his advice.” So why not take his advice and visit Dubrovnik this year and stop off in the Konoba Dubrava, if it’s good enough for Jamie its well worth a try.

So the basic idea is walking up and down aimlessly. Doesn’t really seem that hard or even that interesting but the Đir in Dubrovnik is a very important part of everyday life.

It’s not really a case of getting from A to B its more of a social activity. The Old City of Dubrovnik has many traditions and customs and the Đir (pronounced gir) is up near the top of the list. It doesn’t particularly matter where you start or where you finish, although there are a few local rules, its only important that you are on the Stradun. The main street that runs like an arrow through the heart of the historic Old City has for centuries been the main meeting place for the citizens of Dubrovnik. Take your time, there’s no rush, feel the laid back lifestyle and most importantly observe your surroundings.

The Đir is an opportunity to meet friends, make new ones and basically socialise, it’s like an ancient version of Facebook. Business deals are done, meetings arranged and handshakes are clutched during the Đir. There is even a story that a lawyer in Dubrovnik never had an office but simply spent his working hours walking and drinking coffee on the Stradun. What better place to find new clients!

So during your holiday in Dubrovnik why not live like a local and take a quick Đir along the Stradun. Don’t worry you won’t be he only ones doing it. The Đir is still part of the fabric of life in the Old City of Dubrovnik.
